The seventh in Classics' Wingy Manone series (reissuing all of the trumpeter-vocalist's recordings as a leader into the mid-'40s) has 21 numbers from his lesser-known period. The good-humored Manone is heard leading Dixielandish groups that include at various times clarinetists Joe Marsala and Matty Matlock, trombonists George Brunies and Abe Lincoln, pianists Mel Powell and Joe.

James P. Johnson and Wingy Manone are two particularly noteworthy contributors, and it is interesting to hear such high-fidelity recordings by the Original Dixieland Jazz Band. Many of the pieces merge jazz with popular songs, resulting in unexpected gems such as Wingy Manone's Dixieland interpretation of "Home on the Range" and Miff Mole's "Peg of My Heart.".
